Picture this: it’s early September in the Pacific Northwest. Your closest friends and family have flown in from Southern California to celebrate you marrying the love of your life. The crisp morning air is filled with the scent of dahlias and pine trees. With laughter in the air, farm animals frolicking about, and your people in tow, you all stroll through your wedding venue picking flowers to adorn your reception space… Sounds almost too good, right? Kimberly and Sam’s intimate garden wedding in Northwest Washington was actually just like that. And it was just as magical and whimsical as it sounds.
As a Southern California wedding and elopement photographer, it’s not everyday that I find myself in the PNW. But there’s no better reason to mosey on up than photographing a dear friend’s wedding day! I actually have known Kimberly since we were just two theater kids. After Kimberly and Sam’s Southern California engagement session, I was truly thrilled when they asked if I would photograph their Washington wedding! They chose a beautiful farm wedding at the Farm Kitchen in Poulsbo, Washington. Sam’s mom and aunt actually work at the venue, so it was a match-made in heaven. In fact, the space that Kimberly and Sam had their first look was the place they had always envisioned when thinking about their wedding day! Just another full circle moment to marvel over.
As I mentioned, the day before Kimberly and Sam’s intimate garden wedding, family and friends flocked to the venue to pick fresh flowers to add to throughout the reception space. One of my favorite aspects of a destination wedding is watching families and friends intertwine to celebrate a marriage. Spending the day with the crew was just such a special moment to witness, and one of my favorite parts of this PNW wedding day.
Unsurprisingly though, my most favorite part of Kimberly and Sam’s wedding was the intention behind each decision. The entire experience felt authentic to their relationship; from the details they chose, to their intimate ceremony tucked in the Hidden Cedar Grove, and even the vendor team they selected, it was perfectly them. Their bridal party was kept to just their two best friends, their flower “girls” were their grandmas, and I cried more times than I could count on one hand. Not to mention just how much they loved on their vendor team – so much so that they had a sweet sign dedicated to shouting out the small businesses that contributed to their special day. If that doesn’t tell you what kind of souls Kimberly and Sam have, I don’t know what will. It’s so effortless to celebrate a couple as kindhearted and in love as these two. And being surrounded by their favorite people made their love even more evident.
Kimberly and Sam’s intimate garden wedding in Northwest Washington wrapped up with some sick dance moves and indulging in a caramel apple bar by the fireside. I mean, is there any better way to end a wedding day?!
From the Pacific Northwest to Southern California and beyond, I couldn’t be more grateful to work with such beautiful, down-to-earth couples.
