Rizza and Josh were one of the most genuine couples I’ve had the honor to photograph. From the moment we had our first consult call (where we excitedly discussed their wedding dreams), I knew that a special connection was forming. Their dreamy Downtown Los Angeles Arts District wedding was a culmination and perfect representation of their journey together. Rizza and Josh have a love that is not only beautiful but deeply authentic. I was so incredibly eager to capture every moment of their unique and extraordinary relationship.
Like many couples before their big day, I actually photographed their engagement session what feels like forever ago. Rizza and Josh have a mutual love for the outdoors, so we decided to head to Mount Baldy for all the outdoor vibes. The vibrant greenery of the forest coupled with portions of desert landscape made their Mount baldy engagement session exactly what they had envisioned. It really was the perfect location for them.
When it came to planning their wedding, they originally had dreamt of saying their vows at a stunning desert venue, surrounded by cacti and warm California sunshine. Unfortunately, just months before their big day, their dream desert wedding venue closed down and left them without an option. With the help of their amazing wedding planner (Cassidy), they stumbled upon a new venue. Seventh/Place is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Downtown LA. While it wasn’t necessarily what they originally envisioned, it somehow fit them and their vibe like a glove. Their wedding planning process was such a good example of how many unexpected things can happen along the way.
On the morning of their wedding day, Rizza and Josh soaked up quality time with their people getting ready for a beautiful day ahead. Once ready, they shared an intimate first look in the stairway of the Freehand Hotel. The ambience and warmth of the hotel really added to the whole “downtown wedding” atmosphere. After some tears were shed during Rizza and Josh’s first look, we hit the down with their hype bridal party. We took some of my favorite bridal party photos ever zipping across the crosswalks amongst the towering buildings.
Both Rizza and Josh were incredibly excited to finally be married and to experience every moment of their special day. It felt like such a long time coming for this sweet couple. From having to change their plans last minute to still having the wedding of their dreams, it was a beautiful day to witness.
In typical “Laura Burns” fashion, I had many favorite moments throughout Rizza and Josh’s wedding day. But there was one moment in particular that stuck out to me – a memory forever etched in my mind. Obviously the “first kiss” is a pivotal moment on a wedding day. But actually, it was the moment right after their first kiss that made me giddy. Right after their first kiss, Rizza and Josh just looked at each other and literally squealed with excitement. It was the definition of the purest joy.
Rizza and Josh’s downtown Los Angeles arts district wedding embodied exactly what weddings should be about. Excitement to be married, without letting the little details get in the way. No matter what wedding planning throws at you, remember what matters most. You’re marrying your person – your other half. At the end of the day, no matter if your wedding happens in your first choice venue, or if your recessional song doesn’t play right away, your LOVE is what matters. You will have the best experience when you let the day unfold around you without getting caught up in the ‘what-ifs’ or the stress of the details.
But enough from me! Here’s what Rizza and Josh had to say about their experience with Laura Burns Photography:
“She got us! I wanted someone who understood how much my partner and I love the outdoors. She got it. After working with Laura, SO HAPPY and at ease with our entire wedding. She got all the shots we wanted and made us feel so comfortable. When we got the photos, I was overwhelmed with happiness.”
